The Solution Lab has built a community of like-minded, talented individuals across different business and scientific disciplines. We offer workshops and seminars on professional development and career topics to broaden the skill sets of our volunteers.
Looking to take your thesis or postdoc project into more creative directions? Interested in developing a novel scientific concept into a revolutionary product? Then, tap into your imagination and learn how to mine new insights from your research with this one-of-a-kind creative thinking workshop!
Participants will learn to think more creatively about their science using the methodology of Design Thinking. You will work in small, guided groups to brainstorm techniques to leverage your own scientific breakthroughs and start to develop product ideas that address market needs. This workshop is also useful for those looking to find new ways of approaching and overcoming problems in lab, regardless of their commercial potential. Participants will be able to apply basic principles from these real-life examples to the workshop case studies and eventually to their own work.
The workshop provides current participants in The Solution Lab, alumni, and the general public with an afternoon of panels and workshops designed to inform and prepare participants for their employment searches. Attendees heard from alumni of The Solution Lab’s training program who are now employed in pharma/biotech, medical communications, entrepreneurship and management consulting. Attendees received individual attention and feedback on their interview style and resumes. Sessions included, “Preparing for Interviews outside of Academia”, “Perfect Your Pitch” and opportunities for peer-to-peer resume review.
We hold several social and networking events during each training cycle to facilitate networking with past and present members of The Solution Lab, in addition to outside members of the science and business communities. These events also provide current volunteers with a chance to meet their peer volunteers who are working on other projects.
